Barry and myself enjoying fine musical company in the person of Eamon Casey (accordion). My favourites are the polkas, without a doubt! Here we’re playing in Adare for Right Note Entertainment,
I brought the small celtic harp (Kairos by Pepe Weissgerber) to the Adare gig, because we had to change location to play shortly afterwards in a second venue, and walk about 500m with all our gear. I had the harp on my back, the fold-up stool in a small bag, and both hands free to help Barry move all his gear! As you can see in the picture, he has a set of uilleann pipes, a tenor guitar, a banjo, a bodhrán and some technical gear accompaning his amazing singing skills.
Below you can see us in action at Kate Kearney’s Cottage (Gap of Dunloe) for the “Irish Night”. Here I have the luxury to pull up the van right outside the side door, and the big celtic harp (“Arios” by Pepe Weissgerber) is the right tool when accompanying a band – it has a lovely bass and big sound, the strings are responding quickly – a harp that “plays itself”).
The small “Kairos” came in handy on another gig we did for “Right Note Entertainment”, when we were asked to play on boats (5 musicians, 5 boats), and then hop onto Inishfallen Island for a lunch concert as a band:
The season for solo harp gigs has also kicked off, some of the highlights included “Beaufort House” and “Garret’s” in Killarney:
Another happy note was going to Tuamgraney Harp Festival for the harp ensemble workshop & connecting with Fiana Ní Chonaill, Mairead Kelly & Aine McCarthy-Kent for a harp ensemble project. We had our first rehearsal shortly afterwards, tying it in with attending Máire Ní Chathasaigh’s harp workshop in Tramore!
